About the project
We have upgrade Western Avenue, from Ōmokoroa Road to north of (and including) Gane Place, to a new urbanised roading standard that is fit-for-purpose as Ōmokoroa grows.
This road is now safer, future-proofed, and easier to use for a variety of road users - including pedestrians and cyclists.
This project involved widening of the existing road to approximately 11.5m wide, constructing new kerbing and channelling, under grounding services, new landscaping and signage, and building a 2.5m-wide combined cycle and pedestrian path on both sides of the road. We also resurfaced the existing pavilion car park, and added new angled parking.
The project was completed in late 2022. See the images below for the finished results.
