Trading in Public Places
If you wish to sell goods or services from a public place within the Western Bay (ie mobile coffee van), you must hold a Trading in Public Places Licence. A Licence permits you to sell nominated goods from one location.
Where can I trade?
Where you wish to trade is up to you, however there are several factors taken into consideration during the approval process, for example, proximity to other traders of a similar nature (must be at least 300m away), safety of road users and customers, impact on neighbouring area etc. If you want to know more about these factors and other guidelines see the Trading in Public Places Bylaws 2019.
If you are thinking about trading on a State Highway, you must also obtain approval from Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA).
Please note we are not currently accepting applications for Wairoa Road River Reserve, the Park and Ride carpark on Omokoroa Road (Prole Road intersection) or ANZAC Bay.
How do I apply?
To apply please complete an online application form. Please allow up to two weeks for your application to be reviewed.
We will be in touch if we have any queries regarding your application and you will be notified as to whether your application is approved or declined.
How much does a Licence cost?
New Licence | $550 per annum |
Renewal Licence | $418 per annum |
You will be invoiced the relevant fee upon approval of your application. Fees must be paid prior to a Licence being issued.
What else do I need?
If you are selling food or drinks you must be registered with a Food Control Plan or a National Programme with your local Council or Ministry of Primary Industries.
