Monitoring of Resource Consents
Council has a responsibility under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) to monitor the activities within their district and more specifically consented activities:
The following provisions of the RMA apply:
Section 31 - Which requires Council to control the adverse effects (any actual or potential effects) of the land use, development, or subdivision of land, and to control the adverse effects of noise.
Section 35 - Places a duty on councils to carry out “state of the environment” monitoring, and monitor the exercise of the resource consents that have effect in its district.
Section 36 - Provides for councils to charge fees for monitoring and supervision of resource consents.
