The Western Bay of Plenty District is culturally diverse with a large Māori population made up of 11 iwi groups, 74 hapū and 23 marae

Quick facts:

• Māori represent almost 20% of the District’s population
• approximately 8% of land tenure is under Māori title. There are more than 947 parcels of Māori land in the District
• there are numerous Māori land trusts in the District
• recent and upcoming Treaty settlements are delivering significant investment funding into the Western Bay of Plenty District.
