groups, 74 hapū and 23 marae
Quick facts:
- Māori represent almost 20% of the District’s population
- approximately 8% of land tenure is under Māori title. There are more than 947 parcels of Māori land in the District
- there are numerous Māori land trusts in the District
- recent and upcoming Treaty settlements are delivering significant investment funding into the Western Bay of Plenty District.
