Earthquake-Prone Buildings
Earthquake-prone buildings (EPB) have a higher chance of causing damage or injury in an earthquake.
The Building Act 2004 requires owners of earthquake-prone buildings to do strengthening work within a determined time frame.
EPB Notice Extension
The Building (Earthquake-prone Building Deadlines and Other Matters) Amendment Bill is before Parliament.
Owners of earthquake-prone buildings (EPB) with a notice that has not expired (as of 2 April 2024) may receive a 4-year extension while the EPB legislation is reviewed by the Government (regardless of priority status).
