Stormwater Catchment Management Plan
About the project
Council has applied to renew our comprehensive stormwater consent for the Ōmokoroa Peninsula under the resource consent under the Resource Management Act. We will be seeking a 35 year term on the new consent.
Over the next few months we'll be updating information about stormwater in Ōmokoroa. Ōmokoroa first obtained a comprehensive consent in 2005. In addition, Council has a stormwater management plan for Omokoroa that was first developed in 2001 and reviewed and updated in 2017. These documents along with the comprehensive stormwater consent provide the guiding principals on how stormwater is managed within the Ōmokoroa peninsula.
Ōmokoroa has an existing opportunity with in ‘Structure Plan area’ (land between the railway and SH2) to look at improved ways of stormwater management. This means we will be looking at the use of ‘water sensitive urban design principals’ (WSUD) within this area to ensure any stormwater discharges have a minimal impact on the receiving environment. WSUD is an alternative to conventional forms of urban development. It uses natural soil and plant processes to manage stormwater, promote water re-use and enhance urban liveability and human wellbeing.
