In January 2017, Chorus reached an agreement with Crown Infrastructure Partners to extend ultrafast broadband to 169 new areas nationwide, including the Western Bay communities of Waihi Beach, Te Puna, Paengaroa, Maketu and Pukehina.
Crown Infrastructure's website provides information on the Rural Broadband Initiative phase two (RBI2) coverage.
Tuatahi First Fibre (previously Ultrafast Fibre Ltd) has completed broadband installations in Katikati, Ōmokoroa and Plummers Point, Aongatete and Te Puke.
