Ōmokoroa Road Urbanisation - Stage 1

About the project

The project involved upgrading 1.3km of Ōmokoroa Road, from Western Avenue to Tralee Street, to an urbanised standard, complete with kerbing, footpath/cycle path, lighting, drainage, utility services and landscaping.

The existing road has been widened to 11.5m and new 2.5m shared paths have been constructed on both sides of the road.

This upgrade will make a massive difference to the day-to-day travel of people through Ōmokoroa, and go a long way to helping ensure the area is ready for the growth that is coming.

It included a new roundabout at Tralee Street and at McKenna Lane, plus improved entrances to Fresh Choice supermarket and the commercial shopping area. Utilities services were also partially undergrounded.

The new urbanised environment along the stretch of road will be a continuation of the roading infrastructure upgrade already done by Council to meet the demands of the changing community.
