Flooding at Te Puke Animal Shelter
The 2023 Auckland Anniversary Weekend’s wet weather created one heck of puddle at Te Puke Animal Shelter.
We got so much rain the electronic gate stopped working, and the carpark and two of our three exercise yards became one enormous pond. The water came right up to the door, but luckily didn’t make it inside.
We made an early call to evacuate the dogs, which saw us moving six pups to another shelter for emergency accommodation.
Our Animal Services team reported that most dogs were pretty relaxed about the downpour. But the biggest dog on site had to be carried to the car as he wasn’t too keen to get his feet wet.
Since the floods, we’ve now upgraded the access to the animal shelter including a new gate and high ground access.
