Ōmokoroa
Ōmokoroa is a sought-after area for coastal living in the Western Bay.
Set on a long peninsula in the Tauranga Harbour, it has transformed over the years from the sleepy holiday spot to a thriving lifestyle area with a mix of residential, industrial, small landholdings and some retail.
Ōmokoroa translates from Maori legend as 'the place of the long lizard'. It was a plentiful larder and a strategic trading and fighting post for Maori before European settlement in the late 1800's.
The Ōmokoroa to Tauranga Cycle Trail is part of the New Zealand Cycle Trail network and provides a safe and recreational link between the peninsular and Tauranga City. The 17km project will provide an alternative transport choice to the busy State Highway 2 corridor that connects the area to Tauranga City.
