Everyone working in the food industry has a
responsibility to make sure that the food we buy is safe and suitable to eat.
If you are thinking of opening your own food business in the Western Bay District you need to understand and follow an appropriate plan (food control plan) or programme (national programme) under the Food Act 2014. The plan or programme that will apply to you depends on the nature of your food business.
Ministry of Primary Industries has more information and videos you may find useful relevant to your proposed food business, a Food safety toolkit and the food adviser hub.
Check out the steps to starting a food business video.
Once you have a plan or programme in place and have completed an application to register your food business, you will need to get everything checked (verified) to ensure you are making and selling safe and suitable food.
Each step of this process is explained in more detail on the relevant pages - see the steps below.
If you are purchasing a food business, you must apply for your own registration.
