About the walks
Omokoroa Domain to Bramley Drive (via Gerald Crapp Historic Reserve)
40 minutes one way
There are a number of walks on the peninsula – the most popular being a 40-minute walk around the tip that includes the Gerald Crapp Historic Reserve.
From the Ōmokoroa Domain, head north towards the tip of the peninsula, you'll find the Gerald Crapp Reserve - a two hectare reserve with lovely views across to Matakana Island and over the Tauranga Harbour.
The many trees were planted by Joseph Tice Gellibrand - one of the early Crapp family settlers who brought the seedlings from Tasmania. A Eucalyptus botryoides (Southern Mahogony) was felled in 2011 due to rot and its stump carved into the likeness of Rev Joseph Tice Gellibrand.
The Wai-Huri Pa is on the headland within the reserve. This is an important archaeological site and its deep trench can still be seen.
Follow the path around the water to reach Bramley Drive.
Peninsula Loop (via Ōmokoroa Golf Club and Cooney Reserve)
9km loop
A longer walk of about 9km continues from Bramley Drive and along Hamurana Road to a coastal walk alongside the Ōmokoroa Golf Club. It crosses the peninsula to the Cooney Reserve and heads back along the waterfront to the Domain.
The coastal walk alongside the golf course is not passable at high tide, but there is an alternative track along the northern and eastern side of the golf course. Appropriate footwear is recommended for this tidal walk.
