Tauranga and Western Bay of Plenty Urban Cycleway Programme
In 2014, the Prime Minister announced $100 million additional funding for the Urban Cycleways Programme.
Part of this funding is going towards the Tauranga and Western Bay of Plenty Urban Cycleway Programme.
The Tauranga urban cycle network comprises 10 commuter routes totalling 150km, and a wider network of recreational connections and routes throughout the Western Bay of Plenty sub-region.
The Government's Urban Cycleways Fund will accelerate this programme and also the Omokoroa to Tauranga cycle trail which is a priority for the region.
The aim of the cycling programme is to provide a safer and more connected cycle network for people leading to improved transport choices and an increase in the number of cycle trips, especially to school and to work.
