How do I teach my dog good recall?
Start with a short leash and have dog treats ready. Allow your dog to go to the end of the leash then in a friendly voice give the command “come!”
When your dog returns, reward with a treat. When your dog starts to respond consistently, you can use a longer leash.
As the distance increases the dog might not “come,” so give the dog a “no” command and give your long lead a firm tug.
Every time your dog returns, you must reward it. Try this training in various places with different distractions. You will be amazed at your dog’s progress.
You can replace the food reward with lots of praise and a good pat.
