Trade Waste
Who Needs a Trade Waste Consent?
If you run a commercial, industrial, manufacturing, or trade business, you’ll need to apply for a trade waste consent if:
- Your business produces more than 5 cubic meters of liquid waste (which is more than what a large household generates), or
- Your liquid waste contains substances that could harm the public wastewater system.
This applies to businesses such as:
- Food processing or retail premises
- Manufacturing and processing operations
- Chemical processing or production facilities
- Waste management services
- Service stations and car washes
- Laundromats and dry cleaners
- Landfills or any operations producing leachate
Already Have a Consent?
If the nature of your liquid waste changes, you’ll need to reapply for a new consent to ensure compliance.
What Your Trade Waste Consent Covers
Your trade waste consent will detail:
- The volume of wastewater you are allowed to discharge
- The specific characteristics of your wastewater
- Any required pre-treatment before discharging into our system
- On-site service and maintenance requirements
This ensures that your business’s waste is managed safely and in line with our public wastewater system standards.
