Why does my water look like that?
Air Bubbles
- Sometimes, harmless air bubbles can make your water look cloudy when it first comes out of the tap. This happens when air gets trapped in the water mains, especially in the summer months, or when there has been a mains break.
- Let the water sit for a few minutes, and the bubbles will disappear. If the cloudiness stays, run an outside tap for 5 minutes to flush out the aerated water. If the problem persists, contact us for help.
Dealing with discoloured water
Here’s how to clear it up:
- Turn on your outside tap and let the water run for a few minutes to flush out the sediment or any white air bubbles.
- Once the water runs clear, check your indoor cold taps before using the hot water.

Black Specks
If you notice black specks, it might be a sign that your hose or pipe fittings are wearing out. Contact a plumber to replace them and keep your water clean.
Grit in your toilet
Grit in your toilet can mean a maintenance issue with your internal pipes. Get in touch with a plumber to check things out and fix the problem.
Yellow or Green water
After heavy rainfall, you might see a yellow or green tint in your water. This happens when dissolved organics increase in the water supply. Don’t worry - this is temporary and should clear up soon.
