Katikati-Waihī Beach Community Forum Expo
Key community projects, including the Heron Crescent elder housing redevelopment, Te Ara Mātauranga – Waihī Beach Library and Community Hub, and the proposed Ahi Pātiki crossing connecting Waihī Beach and Athenree, will be in the spotlight at the upcoming Katikati-Waihī Beach Community Forum Expo.
Western Bay of Plenty District Council will host the event on Wednesday 9 April at The Centre – Pātuki Manawa Digital Hub from 7-9pm, providing an opportunity for people to connect with ward councillors Allan Sole, Anne Henry and Rodney Joyce, and to get a better understanding of local initiatives by talking to the teams behind them.
Other projects to explore at the event include improvements to the Dave Hume Pool and the replacement of Athenree Jetty.
Council will also be sharing information and inviting feedback on the future of water services in the District, as part of the Local Water Done Well reform. This is a chance for people to understand the options, ask questions and help shape the best path forward.
And there will be information to hand on kerbside recycling, community grants, and emergency management – with the chance to experience a natural hazard simulation through VR goggles.
Council first introduced Community Forums in 2023 as a way for people to meet their local representatives in an informal setting.
An expo-style format was trialled last year in Te Puke, where people could explore project hubs around the room. The format proved successful, with valuable feedback received from the community, and is now being rolled out across the district.
Councillor Allan Sole encouraged people to attend the event, which was a valuable opportunity to stay informed about local projects.
“The Katikati Waihī Beach ward has a number of large projects in the pipeline, and it has been decided to give the ratepayers and residents of the ward an opportunity to view where we are at, in one space, at one time,” says Allan.
“Staff and local elected members will be available at the expo to help you and to listen to your ideas. I urge you to come along to this unique expo and update yourself on what is happening.”
