Cast your vote for a punny recycling name
Sustainabox, Recyclosaurus Rex, Treasure Trailer and Hungry hangarua – which name do you think has the best milage?
Cast a pōti (vote) for your favourite on Western Bay of Plenty District Council’s Facebook page and help name our two new mobile recycling trailers.
Voting is open until Friday 19 August.
The top two names chosen by you will be applied to and have pride of place on the side of the two new recycling trailers rolling out to rural communities as part of Council’s new mobile recycling service.
Ilze Kruis, Resource Recovery and Waste Team Leader says the pōti (vote) is one more way for the community to get involved and take ownership of this new service.
“It was a tough choice to whittle it down to four from such a great list of creative names. It’s been great to see such good interaction and support from the community so far on this initiative.
“These trailers will be driven to rural locations across the Western Bay, so the eventual names will get great milage.
“Please jump onto our Facebook page and pōti (vote). We all have a favourite that makes us smile, but we want you to decide.“
The new mobile recycling service has been designed primarily for the rural community who don’t receive kerbside recycling services.
Trailers will be available for dropping off recyclable materials such as glass, paper, cardboard, tins, cans and clean plastics numbered 1, 2 and 5. They’ll be taken to rural locations for a rostered period of time, determined by the preferences shared in a recent survey of would-be users.
The community can drop off their recycling when it’s in their neighbourhood. A Council team member will be on hand to help people with their recycling and ensure materials go into the right slot.
We’ve run four community drop-in sessions with the trailers so far and they went well. People from remote corners of the Western Bay arrived with their recyclables and gave us some really great ideas on how we can tailor the service to meet their needs. We can see already that there’s a lot of value in this service and we’re excited to get it underway in September.
The mobile recycling schedule will be available online from September at westernbay.govt.nz/mobilerecycling
