Whakanuia Te Wiki o te Reo Māori Celebrate Māori Language Week
Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori is a week dedicated to celebrating Te Reo Māori, promoted by the Māori Language Commission. It is an opportunity for all New Zealanders to have a go at learning and using the language in everyday life.
On from 11-17 September, this years' theme kia ora te reo Māori' celebrates New Zealand's indigenous greeting, and the words kia ora' describe the intent of the new partnerships for Te Reo Māori revitalisation between the Crown and Māori under the new Māori Language Act.
Our libraries are celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori with a special bilingual spin on storytime events, plus fun activities at the libraries for everyone to get involved in! Keep an eye on the Western Bay of Plenty District Libraries Facebook page for more info, or give them a call on 07 571 8008.
So go on take some time to learn some Te Reo this week, and get to know our indigenous language!
You can find out more about Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori on the Māori Language Commission's website, plus resources and other helpful information to improve your Te Reo knowledge.
