Rocky Cutting Road closed
4.50pm Tuesday, 28 March 2017
A section of Rocky Cutting Road has been closed to traffic as a safety precaution overnight.
The road is closed to all traffic from house number 354 onwards due to the threat of falling rocks and/or trees from the surrounding bank.
Council Transport Manager Alex Finn says a number of rocks, trees and vegetation have been loosened due to yesterday's heavy rain and there is concern some objects could fall onto the road.
Our contractors have assessed the site and were concerned for the safety of motorists who could be using the road overnight.
Because of this we've made the decision to close the road until our engineers can make a proper assessment in the morning.
Alex says there is no danger to any houses or other property.
Signage is now in place at the closure site. Alternative access is via Waitao Road.
