Omokoroa Road update
Over summer Omokoroa residents can expect some delays as the upgrade of Omokoroa Road continues.
As well as continuing the widening and realignment works between SH2 and Goldstone Road, the section from Western Avenue to McKenna Lane and the intersection at Margaret Drive will be improved.
The roading upgrades will take place in the new year after the installation of the following utilities and safety improvements:
WATER MAINS
A new water main has been installed from SH2 to the Omokoroa Fire Station. The existing main will be decommissioned and removed to allow for road upgrades.
SEWER AND STORMWATER
New stormwater and sewer mains will continue to be installed to support land development activities.
POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS
The overhead power lines from SH2 to Prole Road will be relocated to enable road widening and improvements to be completed along with new fibre optic cabling installed from the highway to Goldstone Road.
Power poles and lines along Omokoroa Road between Prole Road and the Fire Station will be removed after the new underground cables have been installed.
ULTRA FAST BROADBAND
You may have seen the signs popping up around the peninsula, ultrafast broadband is coming to Omokoroa. A new website is up and running that will keep you in the loop with what's happening. It also invites you to register your interest for linking with ultrafast. Visit https://www.ultrafastfibre.co.nz/
TEMPORARY INTERSECTION
A new temporary intersection will be created near Margaret Drive at 240 Omokoroa Road to enable a residential development.
This intersection will provide access for the development until a planned internal road is created off Western Avenue.
SITE PROPOSED FOR CELL TOWER
Mobile blackspots may be a pain of the past with a proposal being lodged to build a cellphone tower on Council-owned land off Omokoroa Road.
The proposed location is by the railway line at the back of the Settlers Hall. It is compatible with other utilities such as the wastewater pump station soon to be built on the same site. Spark has lodged a resource consent to build the cell tower.
