Update: Friday, 4 August
Council will be closing this section of the Omokoroa Cycleway on Monday, 7 and Tuesday, 8 August for concrete sealing to take place.
Material which was used for remedial work has unfortunately started flaking plastic and capping the track with concrete ahead of schedule will fix this issue.
On Monday several trucks of crushed concrete will be delivered to Cooney Reserve where it will then be transported to the Cycle Trail and compacted.
Two small sections, where boardwalks are planned to be built later this year, will not be capped.
Contractors will remove any loose plastic debris from these areas while undertaking works and the sections will continue to be monitored.
Council would like to thank members of the community who raised this issue and have been picking up the loose material.

We have now re-opened the section of Omokoroa cycleway between Cooney and Tinopai Reserves. A detour has been in place around this section for the past week due to poor track conditions.
Track widening, new metal surfacing and some new drains have been installed to improve user experience. This is the first step in upgrading the entire section between Cooney and Tinopai Reserves, with new boardwalk sections planned for later this year.

Western Bay of Plenty District Council are asking walkers, runners and cyclists to be patient while repairs are made to a small section of the Omokoroa Cycle Trail.
A detour will be in place for a small section of Stage One, specifically between Cooney Reserve and Tinopai Reserve, to allow remedial work to take place.
Stage Two, which was opened to the public last week, is unaffected and open.
Council's Reserves and Facilities Project and Assets Manager, Scott Parker, says there is a small section of the path which is muddy and needs some attention to keep the Cycle Trail at a high standard.
"We know the Omokoroa Cycle Trail is a popular asset and the foot traffic across both stages has been overwhelming. With this popularity though we need to keep the track maintained to a high standard so it can continue be used throughout the year."
Contractors will be on site this week and a detour will be in place until work is complete.
