Western Bay children's and teenagers' librarians at Western Bay Libraries in Katikati and Te Puke are working on a variety of activities specifically for children during term time and holidays.
Deborah Hart (pictured below left) is in Te Puke and Julia Edgecombe (pictured above) spreads her work across Katikati, Omokoroa and Waihi Beach libraries.
Debbie and Julia work as a team to energise the children's library services to include story times, special guests, exciting events and one-on-one help with reader advisory for children, teen and their parents.
Daily from 3pm to 5pm, at Te Puke Library Deborah spends time in their children's library areas sitting with the children, their families and carers to help them choose books and get feedback on what they would like to see in the library.
Once the new Katikati Library is built (the aim is for it to be open by mid 2018) the aim is for Julia to do the same.
Whaea Lisa Murray (pictured below right) is also part of the Western Bay team and travels to all the libraries to encourage children to read stories and sing in Te Reo Maori.
Deborah and Julia work together researching children's programmes from other libraries around New Zealand. They are working with their team leaders to develop ideas on new activities and initiatives to ensure their year-round programme provides a diverse range of activities for the children across the District.
