Collection day changes coming for Council’s new kerbside service
Collection day changes will apply to parts of the Western Bay when Council’s new kerbside rubbish and recycling service begins on 1 July.
Katikati and Aongatete and Maketu, Paengaroa, Pongakawa and Pukehina will see changes in their collection days from 1 July in efforts to streamline Western Bay of Plenty District Council’s new kerbside collection service, being delivered to 17,000 eligible households across the District.
Council’s new collection day schedule sees Katikati and Aongatete and Maketu, Paengaroa, Pongakawa and Pukehina swap collection days – Katikati and Aongatete moves from Friday to Tuesday and Maketu, Paengaroa, Pongakawa and Pukehina from Tuesday to Friday. The rest of the District’s collection days remain mostly the same with some minor changes.

Council’s Deputy CEO and Infrastructure Services Group Manager, Gary Allis, says these upcoming collection day changes will ensure a streamlined service from one end of the District to another.
“Implementing a new service presents the perfect opportunity to make some slight adjustments to the existing collection day schedule. Doing so will create effective routing plans across the District and efficient use of trucks and load volumes calculated to allow for growth.
“Council and Envirowaste appreciate there will be some adjustment required from some of our residents but believe in the long run it will pay off,” says Gary.
If unsure of a collection day for the new service, residents can find their collection day printed on the side of their red lid rubbish bin or yellow lid recycling bin. Residents will also find an information brochure and 12-month collection calendar inside their blue glass crate when delivered this month.
The information brochure outlines what goes in each bin, how to place them on the kerbside while the 12-month collection day calendar shows households when their first collection for each bin will be in July, as well as timings for all collections for the next 12 months.
The collection day changes come as Council begins rolling out 62,000 bins for its new kerbside waste and recycling collections from today.
The new rubbish, recycling, glass and food scraps bins will be delivered to 17,000 eligible households throughout May, ahead of the first collections beginning Thursday, 1 July.
The bins will be delivered in weekly stages across the Council’s three Wards, starting in Waihī Beach and moving down the District.
