Waitangi Day celebrations

A chance to commemorate the first signing of our country’s founding document: Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the Treaty of Waitangi on 6 February 1840.

Western Bay Museum, Katikati

Western Bay Museum in Katikati is celebrating Waitangi Day with a dawn service, beginning with a karakia and flag raising at 6am on Monday 6 February. Everyone is welcome!

Tauranga Moana Waitangi Day Dawn Service

Our friends at Tauranga City Council are also holding their Tauranga Moana Waitangi Day Dawn Service at Hopukiore (Mount Drury Reserve) in Mount Maunganui from 6.30am. Mayor James Denyer will be in attendance. A welcome from tangata whenua begins the service at 6.30am, and will be followed by hymns, guest speakers, and kapa haka. This year speakers include local kaumātua (elders), clergy from community church groups, civic leaders and rangatahi (youth) leaders.The ceremony will conclude with a closing karakia at 8am.
