Calling all students - do something extraordinary this summer

Wanted: the next generation of professionals ready to push boundaries, challenge the status quo and do something extraordinary with their careers.

Western Bay of Plenty District Council is offering eight paid internships in our 2022/23 Summer Student Programme. We’re looking for students that want to do something extraordinary in their careers and make a difference. For our people. For our communities. For each other.

The programme offers an exciting opportunity for students to learn just how important Council’s mahi is in the community, and gain invaluable experience for their CV.

The 2022/23 internship intake has roles in a range of areas in Council, from engineering, building services and summer ambassador roles.

Council’s Head of People and Capability Darren Crowe says our summer students are an important part of the Western Bay whānau.

Whether our teams are out in the community or working in the office – no two days are the same.

Roles available for summer 2022/23:

• Engineering Assistant Summer Student (two positions) to assist our engineers with various stormwater, water and wastewater projects. The role will include undertaking site investigations, gathering information, analysis and reporting.
• Building Assistant Summer Student (two positions) to assist with building compliance and the building consents applications and notifications processes. These roles provide great opportunities and exposure to different aspects of building compliance and consents processes, providing an understanding of the statutory obligations Council is required to administer and monitor.
• Summer Ambassador (four positions) assisting our compliance team, the Summer Ambassadors will visit Western Bay's freedom camping spots, parking areas and beaches over summer to make sure everyone is enjoying their stay and to educate campers on the District's freedom camping opportunities.
