Celebrating Cultural Diversity
He tātai muka,
He tātai tangata
Weave together the strands,
Weave together the people
Coinciding with the United Nations Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and New Zealand Race Relations Day on 21 March, our Celebrating Cultural Diversity Awareness Month events are a fantastic way to celebrate the everyday diversity of residents across Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty. It’s a valuable time to reflect on what gives us all a sense of belonging in our multicultural community.
We want to encourage people from all walks of life to call Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty home.
We know that a strong and vibrant community is one that enables all of its members to participate in its economic, civic and social life, and where everyone feels included, has a sense of belonging, and has opportunities to succeed. We understand that communities who make newcomers feel welcome are likely to enjoy better social outcomes, and stronger economic growth.
Building connections between locals and newcomers means everyone feels included and knows they belong.
Tauranga City Council and Western Bay District Council are proud to participate in the Welcoming Communities programme.
