Omokoroa projects information session coming next week

The Omokoroa community is invited to an information session next week to get an update on the infrastructure projects currently taking place across the Omokoroa peninsula, and what’s to come over the next 18 months.

The event, hosted by Western Bay of Plenty District Council will be held on Wednesday 24 March from 3pm until 5pm at the Omokoroa Sports Pavilion on 28 Western Avenue.

This is the community’s opportunity to meet with Council and ask any questions they may have about specific projects under four key categories – roading, recreation, planning and community. There will be no presentations, rather informal chats with Council staff, so those interested can attend any time from 3pm through to 5pm.

Projects that have kicked off include the upgrading of 1.3km of Omokoroa Road from Western Avenue to Tralee Street, the urbanisation of Omokoroa Road from Prole Road to the railway, construction of the Omokoroa Road pedestrian/cycleway bridges, the urbanisation of Prole Road, the southern industrial road construction, and the replacement of the existing outdated playground on the Domain foreshore with a new destination playground.

Council’s Project Manager Raj Sumeran says work continues to progress well across the various projects.

“It’s great to see these projects take shape, and we’re pleased to be involved in transforming the Omokoroa area.

“We appreciate there is some level of disruption in the community during the various phases of construction. Our teams and contractors are working hard to keep impacts to a minimum, and we are especially grateful to the Omokoroa community for their support and understanding during this time.”

Council staff will also be on hand to answer any questions relating to Council’s new kerbside rubbish and recycling service set to be offered to 80 percent of the District from 1 July.

Hardcopy feedback forms will also be available to provide feedback on Council’s Long Term Plan 2021-31.
