Community continues to help shape Western Bay’s future

Western Bay residents have continued to share their thoughts on what their District could look like in the future.

Western Bay of Plenty District Council has had a great response to its latest round of community conversations for Hello Future District. This feedback will help with the development of the 2021-2031 Long Term Plan.

The community gave more than 13,000 answers to the questions on a shortlist of options for potential emerging projects, including swimming pools, Katikati bypass, elder housing, Waihi Beach Library and Service Centre, CCTV and community halls.

The options were created following feedback during the first phase of the Hello Future District community discussion on 12 key topics earlier this year.

Western Bay Mayor Garry Webber thanks all those who took part in the latest discussion as this feedback is critical to decision making on the direction for the District’s future planning.

He is pleased with the large volume of feedback and says it has reflected the community’s intention to be involved in the District’s future and signals people’s demand for Council to `get it right’ in its planning over the next 10 years.

“We must ask our communities what they think is right for the future, why they love living here and then we must do our best to act on that feedback.

“This feedback will inform the proposals we will make in our formal consultation period in March next year.”

Feedback will be used to help assess projects, activities and levels of service for consideration as part of Council’s Long Term Plan which is adopted in June 2021.
