Te Puke kids pitch in to clean park
Well done to the students and staff at Te Puke Primary School this week who put in a great effort to clean up Donovan Park and the surrounding stream area.
Teachers and 68 students had a great morning outdoors gathering 45kg of rubbish, an abandoned bicycle and six tyres, plus they took part in some fun educational activities.
The stream clean-up is a great way for local schools to give a little back to their community. Western Bay Council, Regional Council and Bay Conservation Alliance staff all pitched in to help and were surprised at how much rubbish was collected – in just one hour and in such a small space.
This was a valuable experience for the students who are already up with the play in waste minimisation through composting and recycling programmes at school.
