Kauri Point roadway slip repairs complete
The Kauri Point Historic Reserve road is open following a three-year closure for major slip repairs.
The road was closed following the cyclones Debbie and Cook in April 2017.
The repairs have been done over the past six months by local company CivilWorks Ltd, contracted by Western Bay of Plenty District Council. Rock for the project was from the nearby quarry at Waitawheta.
Project Manager Peter Clark says the completion of the work is great news for the public after such a long time of having no vehicle access to the lower part of the reserve and the boat ramp. The project was completed well under the original budget.
Peter warns against people trying to climb the rock face of the roadway repair as the potential for loose rocks to roll down the slope will remain for some time.
“The road is open for use, but please take special care driving on it while the road seal surface beds in.”
The site will be monitored for one year for any contract defects. Further planting will be done on the lower slopes once autumn weather sets in.
