$100,000 fund opens for community projects
Does your organisation have a special recreational project that needs extra funding?
Western Bay of Plenty District Council invites community organisations to bid for a slice of the $100,000 Facilities in the Community Fund.
Applications are open for the fund that is specifically for recreational projects that need an injection of capital.
The Facilities in the Community Fund was set up by Council in 2001 to provide much needed capital to community organisations struggling to get enough money to fund important recreation and leisure projects.
Continued population growth across the District has increased the need for recreational facilities to meet the changing nature of communities.
The fund is targeted for recreational facilities that are for public use on non-public land. Council may fund up to 50 per cent of the project’s capital cost and applications must be for facilities valued over $10,000. The fund opens for applications every two years.
Examples of funding in the past are:
- the extension of the Te Puna Community Library
- a fitness trail around the Te Puke School rugby field
- a depot for the Katikati Red Cross emergency equipment
- new turf for the Whakamarama School hard court
- shade shelters for the Waihi Beach RSA Memorial
- basketball and volleyball facilities for Te Rereatukahia Marae in Bowentown.
If your organisation is planning to develop a recreational facility you may be eligible for funding from this fund.
