Fun for the pooches at Doggy Day Out

It will be a case of canine delight in Te Puke this weekend when the annual Doggy Day Out bounds into town.

Saturday, 22 February sees Western Bay of Plenty District Council’s fifth annual event come to the Eastern end of the District at Jubilee Park.

From 10am to 2pm, the whanau-friendly event features a variety of dog-specific events and demonstrations, plus fun for the kids.

Council’s Animal Services Officer Betty Hall says the Doggy Day Out is one of the highlights of the Western Bay Wander Dogs Summer Series calendar.

“We’re proud to run this event every year as an excellent opportunity for people to bring out their dogs for the day and show them off,” says Betty.

“The activities we offer aim to promote good dog care. Such as welfare education, training tips and to give dog owners the chance to talk to the experts about dog-related issues such as behaviour and welfare.

“Plus it’s a chance for the whole family to have a bit of fun and have a laugh.”

This year’s activities and entertainment include the dogs from Mount Agility Club in action, a photo booth to grab a snap with your pooch, and the Cool Hot Dogs team keeping things cool with swimming pools for the pooches.

Council staff will also be on hand to show off the dogs up for adoption and help should any dogs require registration or microchipping.

For the humans, especially the kids, there will be a bouncy castle, face painting and a special visit from Paw Patrol’s Marshall between 11am and 1pm.

A variety of food stalls and drink options are available to purchase on the day. Eftpos won’t be available on the grounds but the ATMs on Jellicoe Street are nearby.

The Doggy Day Out is the fourth stop on the Western Bay Wander Dogs Summer Series – featuring eight fun run or walks at locations including Waihi Beach’s Anzac Bay, Te Puna Quarry Park and TECT Park.
