Summer fun for Western Bay youth
Summer in the Western Bay is 100% fun with a line-up of free events for young people hosted by the Tauranga Youth Development Team and Safer Communities.
Te Puke, Maketu, Katikati and Waihi Beach are hosting weekend events this month with a great range of activities including games, sports, waterslides, waterbomb volleyball, sausage sizzles, giveaways and much more!
The activities are a fun way to promote positive messages to encourage young people to enjoy life without drugs or alcohol.
The summer series is part of the What About You (WAY) campaign focused on alcohol related harm and alcohol reduction among young people. This year the WAY campaign includes an alcohol-free message to encourage young people aged 14-17 years not to drink alcohol when going out.
Western Bay of Plenty District Council has contributed $2000 to help with the local events which are on the following dates:
- 18 January - Te Puke Jubilee Park, 6.30-10.30pm
- 22 January - Katikati Diggelmann Park, 2.30-6.30pm
- 24 January - Maketu Park Road Reserve, 11am-3pm
- 27 January - Waihi Beach Night Owl Cinema 5.30-7.30pm
