Te Puke home owners are invited to take part in a free home assessment looking at water usage, and how to conserve water and keep water bills to a minimum.
Western Bay of Plenty District Council is offering 30 chances for households connected to water meters to take part in a personalised home visit by Sustainability Options - a local, independent business that provides sustainable living advice on water conservation, energy efficiency and waste minimisation.
While there has been a good response from the eastern and central catchments, no one in the Te Puke area has put up their hand.
Council's Utilities Manager Kelvin Hill says it is important to get a spread of households across the District for an accurate representation of water use.
"These one-on-one visits are a great opportunity for people to get valuable advice on their household's water usage and to learn about water saving options.
It is also a chance for residents to ask about Council's water supply strategy - and having completed water meter installation across the District this year, Council would really appreciate feedback on our level of service relating to the delivery of the water supply,'' says Kelvin.
Council needs 30 home owners across the District's three water supply zones:
- Eastern Supply Zone - Te Puke, Maketu, Paengaroa and Pukehina
- Central Supply Zone - Omokoroa peninsula, inland Omokoroa, and the rural areas of Te Puna
- Western Supply Zone - Waihi Beach, Island View, Bowentown, Athenree,Katikati and the rural areas of Aongatete and Tahawai.
The free assessment is a pilot service, currently available to only 30 home owners (metered) and will include checking water use, providing advice on water management and the importance of conservation, plus advice on wastewater.
Sustainability Options Director Nik Gregg says his team will work with homeowners one-on-one to increase awareness of household water management.
Now that water metering is installed this is a great opportunity for residents to understand where they are using their water, how to identify leaks and how to save on future water bills.
