Migrant Expo comes to Bay of Plenty
Friday 26 October 2018
A Migrant Expo in Tauranga in November aims to showcase what the western Bay of Plenty has to offer newcomers.
The Expo is a 'welcoming' initiative as part of the Welcoming Communities pilot programme being delivered by Tauranga City Council and Western Bay District Council in partnership with the local community.
It will be held at Tauranga Boys' College on Sunday, 25 November 2018 from 10am - 3pm.
The expo will showcase products, services and information from a wide range of commercial, civic, regulatory, emergency, social, sporting and other community organisations in the region.
Migrant expos have been held across the country and this is an opportunity to bring it to the Bay of Plenty.
President of Multicultural Tauranga, Ann Kerewaro, says the Expo is a useful way to promote information that many migrants and newcomers seek when they first arrive in the Western Bay of Plenty.
The event is sponsored by Sharp Tudhope Lawyers who have supported the Welcoming Communities pilot from the start. Senior Solicitor Michelle Urquhart says the Expo is an important step in the initiative.
Local community organisations are encouraged to take part and showcase what they have to offer newcomers.
Manager of Citizens Advice Bureau Tauranga and Papamoa, Kim Saunders, encourages local organisations to get involved and welcomes newcomers to go along.
"This event is all about people helping newcomers make a great life in the Bay".
