Mayor Garry Webber supports SH2 protest
Thursday 13 September 2018
Mayor Garry Webber supports the rights of the Fix The BLOODY Road group and our community members to come together to protest about inaction regarding State Highway 2 upgrades this Sunday.
Western Bay residents know only too well how dangerous this road is. Fatalities and crashes are becoming a regular occurrence and the sub-standard quality of the road compared to traffic volumes is the primary problem.
We need to move past the rhetoric and keep the pressure on Central Government to start work on previously promised capital projects like the Tauranga Northern Link, Omokoroa interchange, road widening, off-ramps and other safety measures as soon as possible.
Western Bay residents want a straight answer from Central Government and the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) about what exactly their commitment is going to be to remedy this sub-standard highway.
The Fix The BLOODY Road group will be protesting on SH2, specifically blocking the Wairoa Bridge, for 30 minutes between 2.30pm to 3pm this Sunday, 16 September.
