The former Katikati Library and Service Centre will become a creative centre for arts.
Western Bay of Plenty District Council has leased the building to community development group Katch Katikati who plan to sub-lease parts of the building to the Katikati Arts Collective and Information Centre.
Katch Katikati manager Jacqui Knight says the shared tenancy provides a perfect fit.
Having the opportunity to share a building with the Arts Collective and Info Centre strengthens the offering to locals and visitors.
It will enhance the visitor experience and give Katikati an opportunity to continue to build on art and being artistic as a point of difference in our town
The building will include a boutique theatre, cinema and space for exhibitions and meeting rooms.
Katch Katikati will be site manager and the Arts Collective, which includes Open-Air Art and a theatre group, have agreed to help with set-up costs.
Income will come from theatre group performances, art exhibitions, film festivals, Katikati Open-Air Art souvenir commissions, information centre sales, meeting room hire and artisan art commissions.
Jacqui welcomes any art-related community groups who wish to become part of the new creative centre to contact her on 07 549 5250 or email jacqui@katchkatikati.org.nz
