One week left for early dog registrations
There’s just one week left to get your dog registered and go in the draw for some pooch pampering.
Early bird dog registrations for the 2021/2022 period close Thursday 1 July. On June 30 all dog registrations for the 2020/2021 year will expire.
This year’s tag colour is red and to mark the change in colour Western Bay of Plenty District Council is running a photo competition for those who register before 1 July. All entries will go in the draw to win a pooch pamper prize pack valued at $200.
“We’ve had some fantastic entries already and I’m sure there are some more doggy superstars out there,” says Council’s Compliance and Monitoring Manager, Alison Curtis.
“To enter, take a photo of your dog strutting their new red tag, in their best attire and tag Western Bay of Plenty District Council on social media to go in the draw.”
The Dog Control Act requires all dogs three months and older to be registered with their local council. Council keeps a record of all registered dogs are is able to play a significant part in helping lost or stolen animals be reunited with their owners.
Alison says Council's animal services team has a big job keeping the community safe around dogs and ensuring dogs are well looked after. Their work includes responding to complaints about dogs and stock, monitoring the behaviour of dogs in the community, educating dog owners and the wider public, and much more.
“The highlight on Council’s calendar is the Western Bay Wander Dogs Summer Series, giving dog owners the chance to get out and about with their dogs in a safe, friendly and social environment.
“This year’s series was a big hit and we can’t wait for the 2021/2022 edition.
"We also run a very successful and growing adoption programme which helps us to foster and rehome unwanted dogs who deserve a second chance at life.”
