Notice of Requirement for Active Reserve, Ōmokoroa

On 6 March 2024 Council made a decision to approve approximately 10 hectares of new active reserve to cater for Ōmokoroa's increasing population. The decision to approve the Notice of Requirement was subsequently appealed by submitters to the Environment Court. Further update on the status will be provided in due course.

On 25 January 2024 the Independent Hearing Panel (IHP) provided its report that sets out their recommendations to Council on the NOR - Active Reserve, Ōmokoroa. Council will consider and make decisions on these recommendations in the next Council meeting on 22 February 2024.

Introduction

The site is located generally at the corner of Ōmokoroa Road and Prole Road extending approximately 340m along Ōmokoroa Road towards State Highway 2. The purpose is to establish an Active Reserve to provide additional recreational facilities to serve the projected population growth. The Activity Reserve will consist of playing fields, changing sheds and clubrooms, playgrounds, access, car parking, public amenities, and could include an indoor sports venue and an aquatic centre.
