Roadworks at Waitangi progressing
Thursday, 15 February 2018
Work is progressing well at Waitangi, with nightworks continuing since mid-January.
The first area is now complete and was sealed before recent bad weather. The crew is currently building up the pavement layers for the second area and are hoping to seal this area over the next week or so, weather permitting.
The current challenge is holding everything together under very wet conditions, and contractors are doing their best to deal with potholes in the unsealed surface promptly, however continuous rain is making this difficult.
Despite the weather, it is still expected that work on the road rebuild, school entrance and reserve carpark will be completed by the end of February, although this is reliant on some dry days soon to allow the team to complete the seal.
There are still additional improvements such as the kea crossing, tidying up the existing pedestrian refuges, and the path outside the marae, which will be done during the day as they have minimal impact on road users. It is hoped that these will be done by mid-March, again weather permitting.
Thank you for your continued patience and in adhering to speed limits and directions at the site,
This is the NZ Transport Agency's final road rehabilitation project for Te Puke Highway.
