Omokoroa Sportsground is looking snazzier than ever, with a new picnic table and bench seats installed around the skate path last week, thanks to the MenzShed Katikati.
The MenzShed built the furniture using locally milled timber from a huge eucalyptus tree in the Gerald Crapp Historical Reserve which was cut down on advice from a local arborist.
A statue of early pakeha settler of Omokoroa, Joseph Tice Gellibrand was carved into the stump of the same tree and now stands proudly over the reserve.
Council's Reserves and Facilities Coordinator, Stephen Lun, says the new seating will be very much appreciated by families using the skate path.
"With the popularity of the skate path, it became apparent that parents and caregivers needed somewhere to sit to watch their kids.
"We were delighted to keep the whole project locally manufactured and the MenzShed did a fantastic job."
