Waste Management at an Event

Western Bay of Plenty District Council is dedicated to reducing waste to landfill and supporting events with environmentally sustainable methods and processes. Minimising waste at your event is a collaborative process and should include the attendees, venue operators and sponsors.

Under the Waste Management and Minimisation Bylaw 2022, the organiser of the event must submit a Waste Management Plan, to be agreed upon with Council's Event Specialist at the time of application. The plan must include how waste will be minimised and dealt with at the event. This includes the use of recyclable, compostable and reusable material. For events of more than 500 people, organisers must report back to council on the effectiveness of the waste management after the event.
